New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill is seeking partners to develop community projects for the two weeks surrounding Arbor Day this year. The Worcester Tree Initiative program at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill works with community partners on projects such as planting, ornamental tree pruning, trail maintenance, tree mulching, and other tree care tasks in community settings.
WTI has partnered with individuals and groups to coordinate community plantings in neighborhoods. We have also worked with the city of Worcester to plan programs including planting street trees, pruning trees with the help of our trained volunteers, the Master Tree Stewards, and planting and caring for trees in several local parks. If you have a project idea – let us know!
We’re looking for partners from towns in central Massachusetts to propose projects that they could use assistance in completing. New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill can offer trees and help to plant them, bring tools and expertise for maintenance projects, and rally volunteers to help with the project. We can also help with the planning process for anyone needing guidance on how to get their project moving.
The proposed Arbor Weeks would be from April 22-26 and April 28-May 3. Arbor Day itself, always the last Friday in April, is April 26 this year and will be the date of the City of Worcester Arbor Day celebration. Projects may be planned to take place during day or the evening.
We ask that projects have a community impact; they shouldn’t be limited to one yard or tree, but may include planting or pruning several trees near the road or in medians in a neighborhood. Other excellent opportunities include landscape enhancement of public parks or squares and around schools, business parks, or apartment complexes.
