GNOMEVEMBER
November 1-30, 2026

A great gnome uprising is coming! In 1986, the Worcester County Horticultural Society purchased Tower Hill Farm in Boylston and began building New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill. It is said that gnomes inhabited the property long before the Garden was built, but strangely, over the past few years, gnome activity has been on the rise. But why? Perhaps the gnomes are tired of hiding. Or maybe they are curious about the visitors, or the new gardens we’re building. No matter the reason, we’re prepared for their return this year. Are you?

Don’t miss your chance to meet all 40 gnomes and search for the elusive Golden Gnome.

Can you find all the gnomes?
Gnomes are hidden along accessible pathways throughout the Garden, some more mischievously than others! Some of the gnomes will be visible during Night Lights, but to see all 40 and the golden gnome, please visit the garden during daytime hours.

Gnomevember is included with general admission.

Gnome Checklist, Scavenger Hunt, and Garden Map coming soon.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Gnomes can lose their magic when handled by humans! Please respect our gnome visitors and leave each gnome as you find them.

Gnomes can be visited during the Garden’s regular daytime hours, 10am to 5pm daily. The gnomes will be at the Garden from November 1-30 each year. This exhibit is included with general admission. Reserve your tickets here.

The Garden’s staff work tirelessly each fall, using their magic to welcome new gnomes. Gnomes are cast from concrete into two different molds at the Garden and are then provided to local artists to complete.  Artists decorate their gnomes and dream up a unique backstory to bring each gnome to life.

Yes, and be sure to come back annually as new gnomes are welcomed to the family each year!

Each Summer, the Garden releases a call for artists. Interested artists submit proposals including a sketch and story for their proposed gnome. Follow us on social media or sign up for oure-newsletter to stay up to date.

The golden gnome is the only gnome available for purchase. Contact lmorgan@nebg.org for more information.
