Vision Behind The Ramble

Created by internationally renowned landscape architect and artist W. Gary Smith and designed by landscape architectural firm Ryan Associates, The Ramble connects people from all over New England to plants, providing a greater appreciation and understanding of our natural world. The vision: to inspire the next generation of nature lovers, gardeners, and horticulturists through a garden that is truly magical, inviting, and accessible.

Influenced by universal design principles, this 1.5-acre woodland garden is fully accessible. As a unique destination in the region, The Ramble is anticipated to attract families of all ages from throughout New England.

In keeping with the philosophy of New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill, the idea underlying The Ramble is that inspiration starts with joy. People come to appreciate nature, then learn about it, then commit to protecting it. But that process works best by starting the connection with joy and play.
