For Brooke and Martyn, New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill is their refuge. A place where they can come and get lost on the trails in the woods, take in the bright colors and smell of the flowers while taking a stroll through the gardens, or one of their most recent favorite things to do at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill, attend Summer Evenings. Brooke & Martyn’s relationship with New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill started from Brooke’s own experiences at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill. Brooke would often visit New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill with her friends and family, and always had a great time. Brooke has a degree in Biology and has a background in ecology, and as such has always appreciated the balance between learning more about plants and taking in the beauty and wonder of many of the events & exhibits at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill over the years. So, when Brooke and Martyn, a newlywed couple, found themselves in lockdown, they needed a way to safely spend some time outdoors. Brooke remembered all the good times passed at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill and suggested getting a Dual-Membership at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill, and that was how this journey started.
Martyn is from the United Kingdom, and before moving to the US only a few weeks before the United Kingdom went into lockdown, Martyn used to live close to the Oxford Botanic Garden. Hence, he had a rough idea of what to expect when visiting New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill. Brooke & Martyn had got the membership before Martyn had the chance to visit, so his picture of New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill was built from the stories that Brooke told him. What surprised him about the first time they visited New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill together, however, was the complete ease that washed over him as they started driving up the winding road to New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill. He remembers thinking that the visit was something “I didn’t know I needed until I had it”. Martyn is always curious about nature and was in complete awe of the gardens, and that feeling of awe hasn’t gone away since.
Brooke & Martyn have enjoyed exploring some of our newer exhibits such as Wild Hideaways. They love how all the pieces were put together and challenged you. One standout was the structure ‘Open house’ by artist Greg MacGlashing. The steel structure shows the skeleton of a house and encourages visitors to think in-depth about the meaning of “home”. Visitors are invited to ‘explore both the space and emotions of home, encouraging them to create their own story. Martyn specifically remembers standing in the middle of the structure and looking up, lost in thought, which is exactly how the artist wanted this piece to impact our visitors.
An event that Brooke & Martyn recently enjoy attending often is Summer Evenings. Not only is it a great way to spend a summer evening but it’s in a manner that is safe while also enabling you to feel connected to others. One of Brooke’s favorite memories from this summer so far was attending the first Summer Evenings. It had been a long time since they had been around other people, and it felt amazing to be able to grab a beer and listen to live music, all while feeling connected to the people and nature that surrounds you. New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill was able to do that for them. New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill is unique in its ability to be a great place to come alone or as a couple and spend a serene afternoon, while also being a great place for exploring with friends and family. Brooke & Martyn did just that. They brought their old neighbors to visit one day and it was a great day spent.
Their old neighbors Alana & Kyle had become dear friends of Brooke & Martyn and they made a pact that once they moved out they would plan a day together, and that day turned into a visit to New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill. It was great for Brooke & Martyn because not only are they visiting New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill again and seeing all the changes, but now they were able to become guides. It was special also because Alana has a background in Botany so it was special to see her being enthralled by the gardens.
New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill holds a place close to Brooke & Martyn’s relationship also because it shows a timeline with their relationship. Brooke & Martyn first visited New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill together as a newlywed couple and a year later spent their 1-year anniversary together at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill. Their wedding anniversary is on March 27th, and it was a beautiful day. Brooke & Martyn played scrabble and lunch at a local park before spending the rest of the day at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill. It is almost like the flowers and plants at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill knew it was a special day for them because the daffodils were in bloom that day, a field of yellow welcoming them back to New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill.
When asked why they think people should get a membership, their answer was simple There are too many things at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill to see and enjoy that could be completed properly in one visit. They believe that most people that visit New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill have a great time, and so visit another time, and eventually, you will want to come back another time which by that time you might as well get a membership. They believe the membership pays for itself very quickly, and recommend dual membership for couples.
