Construction

As recent visitors can attest, there is a lot of construction progress happening at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill this fall. We are very grateful for your patience and support this summer and fall as we work to make New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill more accessible and even more beautiful.

Here are updates on our improvements to look forward to:

  • We can hardly contain our excitement about how wonderful The Ramble is coming together. This garden for children and the young at heart will be ready for you to begin exploring this fall. We also plan to have it decorated and open for Night Lights. Our new, accessible boardwalk along Pliny’s Allée will bring you to this one-of-a-kind space, which visitors can enjoy throughout the winter before we formally celebrate its completion in the spring. We thank the over 150 individuals and foundations who have supported our Growing Boldly campaign to make these projects possible.
  • Our parking lot expansion, made possible in part by the Cultural Facilities Fund of the Massachusetts Cultural Council, is moving forward full steam ahead with construction crews making major progress in recent weeks. When they finish up later this fall, we will have twice as many parking spaces as we used to. This will allow more people to visit, particularly during busy times like when the Daffodil Field is in full bloom.
  • The Entry Garden is also making major strides on a daily basis. The finished product, coming later this fall, eliminates the stairs at the Entry Pavilion and wraps an accessible path around it, making it easier for people of all mobility levels to go from the parking lot to the Visitors Center.
  • Speaking of accessibility, the Secret Garden will be closed during the months of October and November to renovate the walking paths within thanks to the support of the Massachusetts Office of Tourism. We want everyone to be able to easily navigate this gem of a garden and are looking forward to its reopening in December.
  • Finally, we are in the process of curating our reference and circulating collections in our Library. We plan to invest more in our popular youth literature collection and develop a more robust reference collection for our professional staff. Some of our less frequently used collections will be shared with partner libraries at local universities and municipalities. The Library will remain closed to the public during this work.
