PRIVATE WORKSHOPS AND LECTURES

We offer a variety of private workshops and lectures for adult groups. These programs can take place either on-site at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill, or at your library, senior center, or other community organization.

LECTURES
Need an expert on horticulture, gardening, plant care, or related issues to speak at your event? New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill has excellent speakers available for presentations, seminars, panels, symposiums, and more. Below is a list of our speakers and the topics they speak on.

Grace Elton has a strong public horticulture background with experience at premier gardens in the United States and the United Kingdom. While serving as director of horticulture, Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond, Virginia garnered national recognition as a top 10 botanical garden by USA Today and achieved the National Medal from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. She also served as horticulture supervisor and adjunct professor at the 118 acres Ambler Arboretum of Temple University in Ambler, Pennsylvania.

Elton is a recipient of the prestigious Martin McLaren Horticulture Scholar award presented by the Garden Club of America. Elton has a Master of Science in public horticulture with a certificate in museum studies from the Longwood Graduate Program, University of Delaware. Her Bachelor of Science degree is in environmental horticulture with a public gardens management specialization from the University of Florida. She serves on the Board of Directors of the American Public Gardens Association (APGA) and as a member of the Longwood Visiting Committee. Elton was honored as a “Top 40 Under 40” for Richmond, VA’s Style Weekly Magazine in 2013 and “Top 40 Under 40” for Worcester, MA’s Worcester Business Journal in 2018. Elton was also chosen for the 2019 Distinguished Young Alumni Award from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the University of Delaware.

Fee:  $500 on-site for up to 25 participants. $30 additional fee for up to 10 additional participants.

Mark Richardson joined the staff as Director of Horticulture for New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill in 2018. Mark served previously as Botanic Garden Director for New England Wild Flower Society, where he oversaw Garden in the Woods and Nasami Farm native plant nursery. He has a passion for ecological horticulture and native plants and is the co-author of Native Plants for New England Gardens (Globe Pequot, 2018).

To schedule a program, or for more information, please email adulteducation@nebg.org. Please include the following information:

  • Organization name
  • Organization contact
  • Program title
  • Program location
  • At least two possible program dates

You will receive a response from a New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill staff member within five business days.

Book a Workshop or Lecture
Please contact us using our request formto inquire about booking a program or speaker. We recommend booking at least 3 weeks in advance. 

Payment
Your full program fee must be paid in advance of your scheduled program. Once your program is confirmed, an invoice will be sent to you by email. Please pay this invoice within 2-weeks of receipt. Instructions for paying by credit card or check can be found on your invoice. You may pay by credit card or check by contacting the finance department staff person referenced on your invoice. 

Technical Requirements
Please note, that for virtual programs, the requesting groups is responsible for the functionality of their participants audio-visual equipment, which includes projectors, screens, computers, speakers, cameras, internet access, etc. Prior to your virtual program date please ensure that the participants equipment is in working order. New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill is not responsible for any technical difficulties that may occur with participants audio-visual equipment. It is not the responsibility of New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill, or its instructors, to ensure that your audio-visual equipment is in working order. You will not receive a refund if your program is unable to run, due to a failure of the participants audio-visual equipment.  

Cancellation Policy
Please contact adulteducation@nebg.org if you would like to reschedule or cancel your program. A full refund will be made if the cancellation is requested at least two weeks in advance. Cancellations less than two weeks before the program date will forfeit the program fee (exceptions will be made if the cancellation is mutually agreed upon and due to inclement weather).
