We’re excited to announce our partners at the Worcester Tree Initiative recently received two prestigious awards from Massachusetts nonprofits Alternatives and Mass Audubon.
Last month, the Worcester tree initiative was presented with Alternatives’ Community Beacon Award, an award for partners of Alternatives that have made a difference in the organization this past year. The award was presented at the 40th Birthday Celebration of Alternatives with more than 700 people in attendance. Alternative’s mission is to create and find places in the community where the individuals they serve can work and connect with others.
Worcester Tree Initiative spent time in 2016 with individuals within the Alternatives community, planting, training, and finding service and employment opportunities.
“Their positive attitudes and joyful dispositions made our jobs easy as we sought to teach them about the value of trees and how to care for them,” said Ruth Seward, Worcester Tree Initiative’s executive director. “We eagerly anticipate being part of their efforts for years to come.”
This week, Worcester Tree Initiative received the Audubon A Award from Mass Audubon. The award acknowledges the work done to restore beauty and shade to neighborhoods throughout Worcester and surrounding towns as well as to effectively educate the community about the importance of tress and their stewardship.
Each year, the Audubon A may be given to an individual or group that has furthered the cause of conservation, environmental protection or has broadened the public awareness of the nature of Massachusetts.
New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill applauds Worcester Tree Initiative for these prestigious awards and is grateful to be affiliated with such an impactful organization.
